Genetics and Technics

Setting: The middle of a large, very large, city. The buildings are hugely tall, and made from some white substance. A train winds throughout the city, and there are a few speeder-ish vehicles that zip about on a road, which is small in comparison to the rest of the city. The sun is red and smaller than it should be. The air is a bit nippy, though not unbearably so.

Larra; Long, reddish hair, which is braided on one side and hangs loose on the other, green eyes, wears a long-sleeved white blouse, light blue pants made of a silk-type material, and thin brown boots. She's about 5'6", very pale and thin, and has a light smattering of freckles on her face. Around her neck she wears a fairly thick metal collar looking thing.

Rhianna; Shoulder length, curly brown hair, dark brown eyes, wears a long sleeved brown shirt, sneakers, and dark blue pants that look much like jeans. She's 5'7" and has darkish skin (though far from being black... think caramel. ish).

Dylan; 5'11"ish, anime-ish short black hair, green cat eyes, lightly tanned skin, a slim, athletic build. He's wearing grey trousers and shirt, with a slightly darker grey jacket.

Kendran; 6'4"ish, heavily built, with skin like a rhinoceros, including a small horn above his nose. He's just wearing grey trousers and a shirt. His thick hide keeps him warm.

Seraphina; 5'9"ish, very beautiful. Looks pretty much like this: [Only admins are allowed to see this link] , but with wings more like this: [Only admins are allowed to see this link] . She's wearing an outfit similar to the boys', except it's a one-piece bodysuit, plus a skirt with a slit in the middle so it doesn't hamper movement.

Larra fidgeted with the scarf concealing her collar as she glanced at the other occupants of the train. Rhianna had said the train would be the quickest way to Amosand, which was why the two girls seat in a seat in the economy car. Well, Rhianna sat, anyways, straight backed and jaw set. Larra huddled, legs drawn up to her chest, despite Rhianna's protests. They'd hopped the train, without paying or getting a ticket. An offense that would get them into trouble, as if being runaways wasn't enough.

[btw, the city they're in is named "Amosand".]

Dylan, as soon as he became accustomed to the sounds of the train, noticed that there was a sound that felt out of place. It took him a minute to place it, but he finally realized it was the heartbeat of the young girl sitting across the aisle from them. It was fast, the kind of heartbeat that a fleeing animal would have. He looked over at her, his piercing green eyes noticing every detail of the two girls, and his quick mind came to only one conclusion: Stowaways, and probably runaways, as well.

Larra watched the scenery through the window with her chin propped on her knees, oblivious of someone watching them. Beside her, Rhianna kept an eye on the surroundings, hands clenched with nerves under her long sleeves despite the rest of her determinedly calm manner. When the man (boy? didn't give ages...) across the way looked in their direction, she noticed, but pretended not to. Did he recognize her? She hoped not...

Dylan touched Seraphina's hand, and she blinked, then looked at him, then looked at the children. After a few moments, she got up, walking down the aisle to the train's restroom. Dylan went back to looking out the window.

Rhianna watched as the woman who'd been sitting next to their watch rose and walked off. What for? To get the authorities? Possibly not, but they couldn't be too careful. Rhianna set her jaw and gave Larra a light elbow to get her attention. Larra started, flinching slightly before giving Rhianna a questioning look.

"Stay alert," Rhianna mouthed, knowing Larra could read her lips. "Maybe trouble."

Larra's eyes widened a fraction more and she shifted, letting her legs hang off the edge of the seat as she stared distrustfully at the seat in front of her.

Seraphina came back after a few moments and 'accidentally' brushed against whichever of the girls has the aisle seat. She murmured an apology and sat back down next to Dylan. She touched his hand, and they were quiet for a few minutes.

Rhianna eyed the woman suspiciously a moment before turning her attention elsewhere. False alarm, or so it seemed for now. Larra must have detected the lessening of tension, for she in turn relaxed a fraction also.

Dylan watched them out of the corner of his eye. Runaways to be sure. He'd talk to them once the train stopped.

Larra and Rhianna remained seated and silent the entire trip. When the train whooshed to a stop, the rose, pulling their respective hoods up and gripping each others' hands as they made a beeline for the exit.

The trio got up when the train stopped also. As soon as they were off the train, Dylan gently caught Rhianna's arm. "Hold up a minute."

Rhianna reacted instantly, jerking back and kicking him in the shin before scrambling a few steps away. Only then did she stop long enough to give Dylan an actual sizing up.

He dodged the shin kick, but let her go. He held his hands up placatingly. "It's all right. I'm not with any authority and I mean you no harm."

Rhianna gave a doubtful frown. "Then what do you want?"

Larra studied them from behind Rhianna, eyes wide, but not frightened.

Seraphina rested a hand on Dylan's shoulder. "To help you. We know you're runaways."

Great. They'd been recognized. Authorities wouldn't be far behind... and there was no way she was going back. And especially no way she was letting them take Larra back. Rhianna adjusted her grip on Larra's hand, ready to run. "Well then," she gave a fake smile, "Glad to know that. We'll be going now."

"Going where? I can keep you safe. I promise, I won't turn you in."

Rhianna snorted. "And why should I believe you?"

"If we were lying, we would have had them meet us here on the platform."

"Unless you decided you wanted to be all clever."

Larra tugged on Rhianna's hand, not meeting anyone's gaze as she whispered, "I don't think they want to hurt us." She glanced up. "We need somewhere to stay."

Rhianna sighed. She hated to admit it, but they did need a place to stay. And though she still didn't trust this group any more than she could throw them, Larra's trust was enough. She ducked a short nod. "Okay."

"Come, then." Seraphina held out her hands to them, smiling softly. Dylan hailed a cab.

[I assume they have cabs.]

[ No, but we can say they do. XP ]

Neither of them even considered taking Seraphina's hand as a cab stopped.
